The orchestra (OSiUP meaning inter-University Symphonic Orchestra of Paris) was created in 1972, by teachers and staff members of the Paris 6 University. It is open to any musician with a few years of practice, be they students, teachers, university staff members, or whatever else.
Rehearsals take place every Wednesday, from 8.30 to 10.30pm, plus one Sunday a month (dates
here) from 10am to 5.30pm (there’s coffee, tea and lunch breaks, don’t worry), from September until June.
We rehearse within the Pierre et Marie Curie Campus (Sorbonne Université – Faculté des Sciences et Ingénierie), in
amphitheater 25.
We usually work on two programs by university-year:
September-January, with 3 concerts at the end of January
February-June, with 3 concerts at the end of June
You can join at the beginning of every semester. There is no entry audition. What we require however is that you practise at home so that the orchestra can actually progress with each rehearsal, that you miss as few rehearsals as possible and of course that you feel good within the orchestra. Participation in the daily life of the orchestra is also expected (installation of the practice room – stands, chairs, lights…; for the concerts, etc.).
Positions depend on availability, especially in the wind section, more details
here.
The orchestra is an association, the yearly fee is 25€ for students and 80€ for non-students.
